Review of Black Hawk Down (2001) by Zack S — 31 May 2011
Black Hawk Down is one of my favorite war movies. Not my most favorite, but it still is an excellent film in all aspects. Ridley Scott is one of my favorite directors and he does a great job here. Some critics criticized this film for the lack of character development, but it doesn't really matter as you still care for the soldiers as most go through this everyday and you really want them to succeed.
The cast and the performances in this were great. Even though you don't get a lot of time to get to know the characters, you still care for them. The storyline is also really great as well and will keep you engaged. Of course, we can't forget about the movie's spectacular action sequences as well. Even if you don't think this film is great, the action will still keep you on the edge of your seat.
This movie isn't flawless, but it definitely deserves five stars as it's an incredible war movie that's a tearjerker as well. The line "....They won't understand that it's about the men next to you, and that's it. That's all it is." gets me every single time! I'm not in the military, but that's so true. Overall, this is definitely one of the best war movies out there.
