Review of Black Hawk Down (2001) by Sidney S — 07 Sep 2012
An exciting, action packed war film that pulls out all the stops! Master director Ridley Scott (Gladiator, Alien, Blade Runner) once again crafts another excellent film, this time in Black Hawk Down. This film is a great modern war drama with a great ensemble cast featuring Josh Hartnett, Ewan McGregor, Eric Bana and also features actors who are now big names such as Tom Hardy and Jeremy Piven.
Black Hawk Down is a great motion picture showcasing the warfare that took place back in 1993. The film is very violent, very gruesome and also very realistic. This film is longer, but its length is not a bad factor at all because once the film picks up it begins to fly by. The film is action packed from start to finish. That is a literal sense the film showcases what can be looked at as a long and extended combat sequence. The film takes place over the course of a day. The shootouts, explosions and warfare scenes were superb and expertly filmed. Ridley Scott's direction in this film is top notch, from the scenery to the focus on characters and later its explosive scenes during combat.
The (true) story and performances by the actors is very great and accurate, you see their pain, their frustration, determination and fear. It shows just how tragic being in the forces can be, showing loss of friends, injury and death. Despite the plot sometimes getting lost in the action sequences the film is truly awesome. A war epic on a grand scale, also not to mention that this film no doubt influenced the Call of Duty Modern Warfare games through look and style. Black Hawk Down is thrilling, exciting and tragic, and a great film.
