Review of Black Hawk Down (2001) by Mason H — 28 Nov 2012
Black Hawk Down.
On October 3, 1993 in Mogadishu, Somalia, US Army Rangers and Delta Force Operators conducted a routine mission that would usually take less than an hour. Shortly after insertion a 2 UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter where shot down by Somalia Militia. Black Hawk Down is about the day that resulted in 18 American servicemen loosing their lives and another 80 wounded. Directed by Ridley Scott and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, Black Hawk Down creates an experience that moves the audience, encouraging them to get up and thank a Veteran. This movie brings to light what they really do. In the movie you donâ(TM)t get tied up in politics like the usual war movie. The movie is originally based on the book âBlack Hawk Downâ? by Mark Bowden and was later produced into a movie. Every actor in Black Hawk Down performs brilliantly in each of their roles as US servicemen. The actors in Black Hawk Down had to give the audience the feeling that they where young innocent boys, but they where actually trained professionals. That have been trained to carry out the orders that have been ordered. The soldiers that partake in the mission are all volunteers who knew the sacrifices that have to be made to save one another. Two men show that they will make the ultimate sacrifice to try and save one of there fellow brothers. Randy Shughart (Johnny Strong) and Gary Gorden, (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) two Delta Force snipers, request to be inserted to the second downed aircraft. They wanted to check for survivors, but the request was denied twice until they persuade their commanding officer to give them the go ahead. They inserted next to the second downed aircraft and find the pilot Mike Durant (Ron Eldard) still alive but wounded, the two defend the aircraft with their lives until the local militia overran them both, killing Gordon and Shughart and taking Durant prisoner. Their actions resulted in the presenting of the Congressional Medal of Honor, the highest award that can be given to a US serviceman. These men are examples of the courage that is portrayed in the movie Black Hawk Down. In my opinion, the unique way that the movie was presented to the audience gives them they feeling that the movie was a PRO war movie. But then it shows the death and cruelty of war that can change a personâ(TM)s opinion. I personally think the movie was great. I would give it a four out of four stars!
