Review of Black Hawk Down (2001) by John L — 28 Dec 2013
Like meny others I knew very little about what happened in Mogadishu,Somalia in 1993 untill I watched black hawk down. the story is told through the eyes of the solders elete delta force and rangers. the mission is a quick extraction of crime lord Mohamed Farah Aidid's top aids from a secret location in the bacar market in central Mogadish.
things start to go wrong when the militia shoot down a black hawk with an r.p.g. from then on its contaiment and survival for the down pilots and crew. the cast is lead mainly by Josh Hartnett (sgt. Matt Eversmann) his fight to save his men and do his job is done extremely well.
his devolution to his marines and the men around him is portrayed with great skill and belief.another great performance from (Tom Sizemore)Ranger Lt. Col. Danny McKnight who leads a convoy of humvs to help with the extraction.
his cool manner under fire and his presance when the bullets are whizzing round their heads brings some order to the chaos. but most of all Ridley Scott has you their where the "metal hits the meat" like never before, the sounds off war are quite something to listen too along with the atmospheric visuals.
I couid not recommend this film enough, untill I seen black hawk down saving private ryan was my favourite film of all time, but now Ridley Scotts masterpiece as changed my mind, utterly fantastic film making of a subject that needed bringing into the light.
