Review of Black Hawk Down (2001) by Horia B — 09 Jul 2011
Black Hawk Down is a thrilling visual experience. The movie is based on real events that happened in Somalia in 1993 when nearly 100 U.S. soldiers were dropped in the capital city of Mogadishu to capture two Somali leaders.
Ridley Scott creates a realistic image of war by not focusing the story around one main character but around all of them individually. But out of all of them Eric Bana's,William Fichtner's and tom Sizemore's characters stand out.Scott also kept an eye for little details like the scene when the helicopter above is shooting and the hot bullet shells come down into the soldier's jacket and he tries to take them out.
Everything Hans Zimmer touches turns to gold and this movie is no exception. The score is unbelieveable.
The movie itself is so well done that it basically makes you feel as if you're there inside the black hawk falling down. The thrilling shots of RPG's leave you breathless.
This is a movie that shouldn't be missed as it shows the true face of war and how it can turn human beings into animals but also heroes.
