Review of Black Dynamite (2009) by Aj S — 02 Jul 2010
FINALLY! A spoof/parody movie that actually gets it right! Instead of bastardizing the material for which the filmmakers are parodying they truly honor it in every way you could possibly think of. "Black Dynmaite" lampoon's the silly, crazy, mindless, 70's blaxplotaion genre; with its cheesy acting, ridiculous plot, tons kung fu action, jive turkey's, and foxxy ladies, this movie does everything right from A to Z.
The cinematography, production design, costumes, score, EVERYTHING, is carefully recreated to recapture this lost style of filmmaking to a point where I actually thought I was watching the real deal. They especially recapture those great little quirps that make blaxplotation movies so fun to watch; like the boom mic coming into frame, fouled up takes cut into frame, and the bad special effects with silly gore effects added into the mix.
Michael Jai White came up with a brilliant story and a very funny script, but also gives one of the funniest performance I've seen in a long time as Black Dynamite himself. And if you think this movie is crazy, see how crazy it is once you reach the finale of this movie, and who "the Man" really is! Great movie, it's one of my new favorite comedies of all time.
