Review of Black Dynamite (2009) by Gus S — 11 Jul 2010
Listen up, sucka: "Black Dynamite" is the GREATEST FILM EVER MADE!
Okay, it's not, but I'll tell you this: you'll never spend 90 minutes having more fun watching one film than this one.
To call "Black Dynamite" a spoof of blaxsploitation flicks is actually an injustice; whereas fluff like "I'm Gonna Git You Sucka" riffed on the parodist side of those flims, "Black Dynamite" is a loving homage to the genre, filmed entirely in grainy Super 16 film and riddled in errors (check out the boom mike in the shot early on), flubbed dialogue and out-and-out camp.
The plot's your basic run-of-the-mill blaxsploitation flick: a kung-fu asskicking ladies' man by the name of Black Dynamite is gunning for "The Man" for killing his brother Jimmy. With the help of fellow badasses like Bullhorn (who has a penchant for rhyming every sentence he utters) and Cream Corn (complete with a permed wig), Black Dynamite uncovers an insidious plot to flood the ghetto with heroin and...tainted malt liquor? Ah, who cares about the plot? "Black Dynamite" is hilarious, dead-on accurate and wholly understanding of the blaxsploitation genre without pandering or sullying it in any way. Sure, it's a one-joke film, but when the joke is devastatingly funny, you can't argue with the results...you jive-ass turkey!
