Review of Black Dynamite (2009) by Korry S — 22 Jul 2010
Black Dynamite is a near perfect send-up of the Blaxploitation flicks of the 70?s. It?s perfectly equipped with bad dialogue, cheesy acting, over exposed and grainy film stock. The storyline also seems to shift at will throughout the film, much like many of the B-movies it?s spoofing.
What Black Dynamite does even better than paying homage to Blaxploitation films is making you laugh. There are so many truly funny moments in the film that I found myself rewinding.
I really was surprised at how funny the film was. I wasn?t expecting that going in. Some of the gags also work well. For example, the main character hitting his head on a boom mic that is caught in the shot.
I?m not surprised Black Dynamite did so poorly at the box office. I?m not quite sure there is a demand for a film that spoofs/pays homage to a forgotten genre that?s over 40 years old.
That?s really unfortunate because Black Dynamite is a genuinely funny and clever film that people should give a chance. You might be surprised at how much you enjoy it.
Can you dig?
