Review of Black Dynamite (2009) by Adam C — 09 Aug 2010
The one thing that can not be denied about this film is that it is dead on in much of its satire of blaxplotation films. The look, the feel, the music and the style are all dead on. The problem though is that do we really need a satire of blaxplotation films in 2010? I mean the film feels like its fifteen or twenty years too late to be relevant.
Before this film there have been countless parodies of the genre so most of the material seems less then fresh, even if it is dead on. The fact of the matter is that the film runs out of steam at least a few time in the course of its runtime.
It feels like a little goes a long way here. Still there are some very funny moments here, like the conclusion with a kung fu Richard Nixon or a funny malt liquor commercial. I don't mean to be too hard on the film, its just nothing new.
It would be worth a look on cable or maybe a rental for a few laughs.
