Review of Black Dynamite (2009) by Jonathan A — 05 Dec 2010
Energetic send-up of 70s blaxploitation about an ex-CIA super-spy brought back to the hood to uncover the person behind a scheme to turn orphaned children into drug addicts. Humor is pretty uneven, sometimes it's hilarious in fits and starts, other times it falls flat or reaches "Police Academy" lows.
Visually, the film is spot on with the washed-out photography, sloppy editing, and wacky special effects. Acting is appropriately hammy; it's a great vehicle for White, who's a martial artist in real life.
Still, it's one of those flicks that will hold your attention if nothing else is around.
