Review of Black Dynamite (2009) by Byron B — 08 Feb 2011
Very enjoyable. Lots of laughs! I don't think it is necessary to have seen a lot of blaxploitation films, which I have not, to appreciate the humor in this. There might be more jokes visible to those who have, but most of the laughs come from simple low budget stuff like microphones sneaking into shots, images going blurry, or scene cuts delayed too long.
I understand from the ComicCon interview special feature on the DVD that the filmmakers are extremely literate about the blaxploitation genre. Michael Jai White in real life has lots of martial arts training.
He is excellent as the action hero Black Dynamite. From the 70's styles to the graphics to the jive talk this is one righteous comedy. Can you dig it?
