Review of Black Dynamite (2009) by Kellen V — 07 Aug 2010
Does a wonderful job paying tribute to the blaxploitation films from the 70's. People might know Michael Jai White as: 'Gamble'(dies in the dark knight), but he is an absolute blast in Black Dynamite.
Salli Richardson looks like she could play one of Pam Grier's roles back in the day. Black Dynamite has a simple plot to follow: The man is putting out smack on the streets and Black Dynamite has to clean it up.
The film does a wonderful job of channeling its inner 'Trouble Man and 'Black Connection'(films from the 70's). It never takes it self seriously, and when people screw up they're meant to.
Black Dynamite really does fell as it was found in some vault somewhere everything from the music, camera work, and editing makes it feel like its from the 70's. The film wants you to laugh at it and laugh with it.
No matter if you're a serious cinephile or just a guy who likes serious action/laughs, Black Dynamite will impress.
