Review of Black Devil Doll (2007) by Dwain P — 16 Jan 2010
"Now I'm stuck with this half-puppet, mulatto baby with no daddy to help take care of it." That line comes near the end of "Black Devil Doll" and tells you all that you need to know about its intelligence and its humor.
The concept should have worked, but nothing about this movie makes sense or is in the least entertaining. Heather dabbles in the occult and allows the soul of the recently-executed Black Nationalist rapist Mumia, who raped and murdered 15 white women, to enter her Howdy Doody doll.
The doll transforms into a black-skinned, foul-mouthed misogynist whose impressive manhood makes all women fall in love (or at least deep lust) with him. Heather falls for him after a few days and then he tells her that he is not a one woman kind of puppet.
He convinces her to invite four of her decidely slutty friends over and then, when he gives her a signal, to disappear for two hours so he can have sex with them. Naturally, he kills them all and rapes the dead bodies in her absence and, just to raise the body count, kills and rapes Heather's wannabe white gangster boyfriend, White-T.
Heather returns, finds the carnage, kills Mumia and then gives birth to their child. The film closes with her blowing her head off offscreeen. "Black Devil Doll" is too bad to be believed. To quote that famous line from "Hollywood Shuffle," I give this movie.
