Review of Black Death (2010) by Mara A — 21 Jan 2012
Way better than I had expected (especially for something available on Netflix Instant Watch). Sean Bean was impressive as always, and Eddie Redmayne (I'll admit, never heard of him before) did exceptionally well in the lead role.
I do love historical/period films, especially those set during the dark ages. The one thing I've never really liked about period films is that many if not most of the characters are either all good or all bad, never a mixture of both, as humans tend to be in real life. This movie does not make that mistake. In fact, even several days after watching it, I'm still a little confused which side was the side to "root" for.
The story was written very well, though a heads up: there's lots of gore. I mean the "arms being ripped apart / look away" kind of gore.
