Review of Black Death (2010) by Doctor S — 18 Jun 2012
Grim, grimy, deadly serious sojourn into the Dark Ages as Boromir is back in the saddle on a witch hunt during the time of the Black Plague. To be more precise, the Bishop has ordered him to investigate the rumors of a necromancer (one who raises the dead) at large in a remote village protected by marshes, and he and his team of mercenaries enlist the aid of a young monk who knows the area.
Often plays like a medieval Wicker Man and earns an A for atmosphere, but is incredibly heavy-handed and oppressive with a very flat ending. Carice van Houten delivers capably as a gender-flipped Lord Summerisle - but why is her name Langiva an anagram of vaginal??
