Review of Black Dahlia (2006) by Philip R — 30 Aug 2008
The art direction and music do an excellent job of setting the time period and general tone of the movie, and the cast is fairly solid. I was particularly impressed with hilary swank, who I never would've thought could play the part she did convincingly.
josh hartnett is monotonous and dry, but stays afloat mostly by being surrounded with more interesting characters. aaron eckhart's character is by far the most nuanced and compelling in the movie and did not get nearly enough screen time.
he was so vital to the movie that once his character is killed things very quickly become boring. long story short, it's not really worth seeing. it could've been better if aaron eckhart had more screen time, or the plot was a little less convoluted, or if josh hartnett was recast with someone who was more relatable and interesting.
