Review of Black Dahlia (2006) by Nick D — 16 Sep 2008
This is like an updated version of "L.A. Confidential" with younger and better-looking actors. The noir thing is equally good and it's based on a real murder case, which is supposed to make the whole story even more compelling by manipulating you into believing that all murder victims wear Poiret dresses and look like a 1930's femme fatale, "fatale" being the key word.
This film is an excellent example of the syndrome that Hollywood films caught quite recently, and which makes them look like luxurious Vogue editorials. Steven Meisel would make a good director, judging by De Palma's blockbuster whodunnit.
