Review of Black Dahlia (2006) by Daniel K — 22 Nov 2010
2: A bit of a disappointment. I wasn't expecting anything too spectacular, but comparing this world to that of a film like Changeling demonstrates that De Palma did not effectively recreate this environment.
Another to compare it to would be Zodiac. Eastwood and Fincher manages to impeccably recreate their worlds, but De Palma does just about anything but. The performances are pretty lackluster and there is little investigative or murderous flair.
The film should have one on edge and continuously seeking the answer, but it fails, for the most part, on both fronts. Modestly entertaining, but this is all.
