Review of Black Christmas (2006) by Hollie T — 21 Dec 2011
Why oh why do these horror remakes feel the need to explain the reason that their killers kill? The original Black Christmas was rough around the edges but one the scariest aspects of that film was the fact that we don't actually get to see the killer.
It is the old Hitchcock refrain that we are most scared by what we don't see rather than what we do not see. In Black Christmas 2006 we don't only see the killer but we get quite a detailed 'insight' into his childhood tribulations.
Not only are these flashbacks pointless but they are rubbish, uninteresting and do nothing for the film, which flashbacks aside is as sterile as any slash-by-numbers film that I have seen.
