Review of Black Beauty (2020) by Robomartion — 18 Jan 2022
It is very much on the budget end of the Disney spectrum. It is void of a real storyline with very tacky writing and a ridiculous narration by the horse. It is a rude surprise going into this movie, with McKenzie Foy as the lead who was previously the lead for Nutcracker and the Four Realms, a tent-pole picture, when it is revealed that Black Beauty is really just a direct-to-video production.
It clicks when Disney's usual castle introduction is not used and and instead the Disney logo is displayed above the Black Beauty title card. I think it is a missed opportunity as Mckenzie Foy and Black Beauty could potentially have made a much more substantial and valuable film.
Other than a nice message (if hypocritical, considering they are keeping a once wild horse in a stable) about caring for animals and the human horse bond, this one can be missed.
