Review of Black as Night (2021) by Jluis_001 — 18 Oct 2021
Black as Night lasts just under 90 minutes and still feels extremely long. This more than anything because of the lack of variants and how most of its situations get constantly repeated in comings and goings without really having a clear point of where it's actually heading to.
The barely existing plot moves forward just because it has to, but it has no more interesting or relevant motive.
It knows how to use the racial and drug addiction themes without falling into cliches or cheap tricks, but the conventionality of its proposal does not improve any of that.
And the horror? An absent guest.
