Review of Black (2005) by Carlos G — 31 May 2008
Beautiful masterpiece of a movie. This film is destined to make it to my top-ten all time movie list. First off, even though this story at times borrowed heavily from the life of Helen Keller, it was still beautiful and inspiring to watch.
The "twist" in the story really added an extra layer of depth. The actors were extraordinary in all ways imaginable, especially Bachchan and Kapoor. Considering the greatest of this movie and magnificence in direction by Bhansali, it is beyond me why this movie didn't get more international acclaim.
While I thought that Sawariya was pretty to look at, most of it was just that, and not enough substance. Black has heart and soul--it is, at this point, Bhansali's masterpiece. I was floored after I saw it and I'm still reeling from it.
What an experience!
