Review of Biutiful (2010) by Steve P — 28 Mar 2011
Javier Bardem is perfect. Every second he's on screen it feels like your're just watching a man live his life. No emotion is fake or flubbed, its just natural acting where he's drawing from somewhere deep down.
I wish it would've focused entirely on Bardem and his family because of this. But by showing the side characters and there stories it makes it bigger and you get a greater sense of the environment Bardem and his family live in.
Its a very very very depressing movie and the little bits of hope or happiness only heighten the sadness. But its such a well made film and Bardem is so damn good that you need to see it. Inarritu's best film since 'Amores Perros' and shows that life after Arriaga is going to be very bright.
