Apart from the local circumstances and Spanish backdrop to this film I thought it was about people and their children. Particularly for me, a man and his father. The length, music the intensity do grab you and involve you.
Inarritu does not take predictable outcomes to plot moments, you have to be emotionally willing to follow his path. There isn't a Hollywood happy ending, but a lot to reflect on.
