I have not seen a character facing more conflict than Uxbal, richly played by Javier Bardem. He is dying, and seeks to insure the well-being of his two young children. At the same time, he is also involved in managing undocumented workers, which appears to border more on human trafficking.

Without brokering in their cheap labor he is unable to provide a solid existence for his family, but he also can not continue to live with the reality he has created for himself.
