Review of Biutiful (2010) by Kaitlin L — 25 Mar 2013
"Biutiful" (2010), starring Javier Bardem, is an intense and dramatic Spanish film about single father and black marketeer, Uxbal, and his efforts to prepare himself for death due to terminal prostate cancer. He attempts to right certain wrongs in his life while also trying to find a stable home and future for his two children. The film also shines a light on the crime in underground Barcelona, specifically human trafficking.
This will probably be one of the shortest reviews I will ever write, but I honestly don't have a single negative thing to say about this movie, which is a very rare occurrence. I'd go into more detail about why I love it, but I don't want to give any plot points away. This is a film I'd strongly recommend people to watch, a film that I would add to a "must see" list. To sum it up, the performances were brilliant, the story was beautifully tragic, the cinematography and visuals were powerful, and the flow of the plot was spot-on. This is a fantastic movie. But be prepared, it's a dark film. Very raw and grim.
