Review of Bittersweet Memories (2004) by Marc-André R — 06 Feb 2008
A pretty average biopic on a wartime celebrity who went from child stardom in Quebec to becoming an international sensation, only to have it all collapse from a long-ignored mental illness (Comparisons to Britney Spears aren't too far off).
This film, however, omits a dramatically significant portion of her life - after 1952, Alys Robi returned to the stage, but couldn't find financers because it was believed that she was crazy, even though she'd been lobotomized (And without the frightful side effects, I might add).
This would have provided a far more interesting end to the story then what we were given.
