Review of Bitter Victory (1957) by Richard D — 03 Nov 2013
Set in Libya during WWII, this is a somewhat starchy tale of the rivalry between two soldiers sent on a dangerous mission to obtain some vital documents. Curd Jürgens plays the Major in charge of the mission with Richard Burton as the Captain who is having an affair with his wife.
The two leads are excellent and there is a genuine sense of tension and loathing between the two men but the story is rather plodding and despite some fine direction, I'm afraid this movie didn't pack enough of a punch to be any more than average.
