Review of Bitter Harvest (2017) by Patrick L — 05 Mar 2017
You need to be interested in history to appreciate this movie to the full extent. There are actually no clichés in it; it's not a "Hollywood" movie. They used a romanticized story that is styled somewhat similarly to Sleepy Hollow, etc.
or Gogol's "Evenings on a Farm Near Dikanka", if you ever happened to read or watch that, but in spirit everything in this movie is true, and historical details, decorations, clothes, uniforms, and landscapes of Ukraine of those times are very accurate.
The audience in the movie theatre was deafeningly quiet; this movie did have a very strong emotional impact when we watched it. I highly recommend it.
