Review of Bitch Slap (2009) by Septa P — 13 Jan 2010
As much as the thought of a film packed with bosomy chicks firing massive guns, tying each other up in chains and getting all dirty while kicking the shit out of each other fills me with joy, the realisation isn't quite as satisfying as expected.
Like Black Dynamite, BS works under the assumption that apeing the unintentionally funny cult movies of yesteryear will make lovers of said movies go to see their paler but less amusing homages.Sadly, and despite some spirited performances, this does not come off.
The producers of BS have also had similar vixen vision (no doubt inspired by Russ Meyer's Faster, Pussycat, Kill! Kill!) and think that endless cleavage shots, hammy acting and Z-grade dialogue will reap success in an audience whose appetites were whetted by the Tarantino/ Rodriguez Grindhouse team-up of last year.
They don't. 1 star because it's worth a look, at least.
