Review of Bitch Slap (2009) by Chase G — 18 Jan 2010
The best way to describe "Bitch Slap" is "Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!" meets "The Usual Suspects." If you've seen both of those films, you know that they are light years apart in sensibility and quality, so attempting to merge them necessarily results in something odd.
The first half of the film is dominated by Russ Meyer T&A, with some blood and gore thrown in for kicks. By the time the story gets moving, the film turns into a quirky, all-out actioner populated by psychopaths and deviants that turns on flashbacks and a "The Usual Suspects"-inspired plot twist that I saw coming a mile away.
"Bitch Slap" is better than you would expect a movie with this name and cinematic pedigree to be, but that's sort of like saying that baseball bat to the head crushed my skull but didn't kill me like I thought it would.
