Review of Birth of the Dragon (2017) by Bobby L — 23 Aug 2017
In a technical sense, Birth of the Dragon is not well made by any means. Scene cuts were annoyingly choppy and sloppy. But that was the least of the issues with the movie. The film itself seems completely unnecessary and adds no depth to the legend of Bruce Lee.
Other than the well-known warehouse fight, none of the storyline seemed to be based on fact. The director took many liberties on their portrayal of Bruce Lee. None that are consistent with previous writings and films of the martial arts master.
Unfortunately, Birth of the Dragon's fight sequences did nothing to improve the film either. Save for the final 10 minutes, fight scenes were poorly choreographed and executed. I've seen much better and I'm sure you have too.
Do yourselves a favor. Skip this one and pop in the Blu-ray of Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story at home. 1 out of 5 Stars.
