Review of Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) (2014) by Buck E — 01 Apr 2017
This is a movie that wants to confuse you. The writers want you to struggle to figure out what's going on in the movie. That's the pretentious part: if we confuse people, we're must be doing something right.
But, the biggest problem I had with this movie is that it had about eight endings. You can spot a movie written by multiple writers a mile away: (1) confused, unintelligible mess, (2) actors struggling to make the material believable, and (3) multiple endings -- usually one for each writer.
Best picture? Only for the effete Hollywood set.
