What makes Iñárritu's postmodern film so compelling is the main idea he chooses to express. Similar to that of Scorsese's Taxi Driver, Birdman portrays the fear of personal irrelevance and insignificance.
And his well-balanced use of comedy and surrealism to express this idea makes Birdman a modern classic.
