Review of Birdemic: Shock and Terror (2010) by Jordan A — 01 Mar 2013

Birdemic is an awful, boring, low-budget, badly directed, atrociously edited, terribly written, horrifically paced, romance/thriller with awful special effects, wooden acting, the worst sound editing I have ever witnessed, and very few unintentionally hilarious moments. I decided to watch this with four friends; thinking that it would be laughably bad. We ended up talking throughout most of the movie, since it wasn't very entertaining. The movie was full of awful cuts, moronic edits, poorly delivered lines and ridiculous special effects, but it was rarely extremely entertaining or laughably bad. It was just bad. The male lead was awful, while the female lead was passable. They had absolutely no chemistry, but it was never really entertaining to watch them together. Yes, their delivery was wooden, and they read some of the worst dialogue I have ever heard, but it just wasn't enjoyable to watch. It was just dumb. The birds were all horribly animated, and there was even a scene where the birds just stayed in one place while the actors tried to fend them off. The scene was absolutely ridiculous; it wasn't exciting or scary, but it wasn't entertaining either. It was just dumb.

The movie also attempts to support environmentalism, but the attempt is heavy-handed and too poorly executed to be taken seriously. The main characters talk about "An Inconvenient Truth" while walking to their cars. They later randomly run into a scientist that explains that people, not the birds, are to blame for the birdemic.

There were a few entertaining moments, but overall, Birdemic isn't worth anyone's time. It's not particularly fun to watch, and it's just an awful movie. I'll give it a 2/10 simply because it did occasionally make me laugh due to the inane nonsense I saw on screen. This is not so bad it's good. This is just bad.

Oh yeah, and some birds actually exploded.
