Martin Riggs, er I mean Mel Gibson was kidn of a big deal for a while and for a reason. Despite his personality, he was a good actor in his day. This was during his Lethal Weapon hey day, so think a little more laughter and a little less action.
Plus the dude who directed Short Circuit did it, so it had some funny (in a corny way) laughs.
Not to mention it has Bill Duke in it. He's one of the all-time great movie henchmen.
