In 2018, Sandra Bullock starred in the original film about a mysterious presence (aliens?) that causes people who observe it to kill themselves. This sequel plays out during that same time in Spain, where a father and his daughter are struggling to survive.
An addition layer of mystery is added with a potential spiritual awakening. There are numerous scenes of suicides and violent fights that are effectively staged. Most of the action is relatively tense, although the subplot does raise confusion.
The added mystical element only serves to ramp up perplexity without affecting the tension. This spinoff is passable without being especially anxious or new.
