Review of Biloxi Blues (1988) by Patrick — 06 Jan 2009
I dug this film when it was first released and I still love it now. The dialogue is funny and engaging, the characters are nicely developed and the cast do a first rate job of bringing Neil Simon's tale to the screen.
Watching Broderick in this film makes me wonder what happened. He'll appear in good flicks every now and again, but not enough in my book. His delivery of the dialogue is so good here and he balances out the funny moments with the more poignant scenes really nicely. Chris Walken is also great fun in this film. His opening scenes just crack me up as he imposes his will upon the new recruits, they provide some very funny moments.
I always tend to view this film as a coming of age tale rather than a boot camp war flick and I am a sucker for films of this nature. An underappreciated little gem.
