Review of Billy Elliot (2000) by The Critic ( — 02 Aug 2012
Insatiably charming British film about breaking free from one's social restraints. Stephen Daldry's fine direction brings out such exceptional performances from the likes of Julie Walters, Gary Lewis, Jamie Draven, and the extremely talented newcomer Jamie Bell in the title role, who is splendidly supported by youngsters Stuart Wells and Nicole Blackwell.
'Billy Elliiot' might not be completely flawless (the film gets a little overly sentimental at one point), but its heart is in the right place, the dance and music numbers are well done, and proves to be a deeply moving and richly rewarding experience by the end of it all.
