Review of Billy Elliot (2000) by Megan B — 29 Nov 2009
Billy Elliot is one of those â??discover who you areâ??/ â??be who you want to beâ??/ â??donâ??t let anybody put you downâ?? kind of stories. Itâ??s an uplifting tale of a poor boy from a mining family in rural England who decides to take up ballet.
As I watched this I realized I knew nothing about ballet because I watched this kid (who did a brilliant job acting) jump around and twirl and I thought â??thatâ??s dancing?â?? Whether you enjoy ballet or not you can enjoy this movie.
The film brings up poignant questions about sexism, homophobia and class struggle, all which makes it so engaging. It gives hope that anything is possible and in my case makes me want to pack up and leave for London.
