Review of Billy Elliot (2000) by Donnalyn M — 15 Jan 2010

Being one of the few people who hadn't seen this film, I managed to record it over Christmas and have finally watched it. I think my opinion may have been tainted by having heard so many rave reviews over the years and I was left feeling ever so slightly underwhelmed.

Having said that, it was quick to suck me in, well acted and made me well up more than once so it had all the key ingredients to make me enjoy the film. One negative - I would have liked to have seen more of Billy dancing, but then it may have become more of a dance film than the meaningful drama it wanted to be seen as (and succeeded at).
