Review of Billy Elliot (2000) by Charles H — 18 Feb 2010
Jamie Bell (you know, the other jumper guy from the movie 'Jumper') plays Billy Elliot. He goes to boxing classes. His dad wants him to. He gets knocked down most of the time. And one particular day, he stumbles upon a ballet class just right next to his boxing class.
And he falls in love with it. Soon, you'll know why he loves ballet. He is not gay, mind you. But, he loves it. His father and brother are having work problems, and it doesn't help much when they discover Billy's unusual hobby.
Despite their objections, Billy pulls ahead. I love one scene where he dances his anger away around his house. And also another one where he dances in front of his father. Both of those scenes are marvelously shot.
Love them.
