Review of Billy Elliot (2000) by Vinay C — 07 Aug 2011
A lovely story which I am sure I would have enjoyed much more had I not seen "The Full Monty" first. This film is quite depressing and doesn't have as much character development as "The Full Monty".
It's been hyped to death and turned into a broadway musical. It has a fabulous cast who give amazing performances. Still, I just couldn't shake the nagging feeling that there was something missing from the piece and even now I can't put my finger on it.
It could easily be edited down to 1 hour and 30 minutes and still tell the story effectively. And why does Julie Walters' character have to smoke so much? Watching that just made my throat hurt. Nice for a change but not one you want to see over and over that's for sure.
