Review of Billy Bathgate (1991) by Jason V — 16 Sep 2008
Not the best gangster movie I have seen and not the worst. I think I actually disagree with most critics as I enjoyed Loren Dean in the title role, to me the character was meant to be played that way, intuitive street smarts, quiet confidence all blended with naievite.
I loved Nicole Kidman, her character was a hot flapper and socialite and Hoffman was okay. The highlights of this film were the time spent in the country, buying off the local population - priceless. I would recommend this movie if you like the gangster genre, but if you haven't seen most of the ones like Godfather, anything with Pacino or Miller's Crossing, go there first.
