Review of Billion Dollar Brain (1967) by Katya E — 19 Dec 2010
The Ipcress File wounded James Bond; Funeral in Berlin killed him; and Billion Dollar Brain dances on his grave while dropping acid. But what else does one expect from Ken Russell? Crazed anti-Communists, a gigantic computer creating a fake Latvian uprising, a beautiful Finnish femme fatale, and poor Harry Palmer standing buy blinking at the whole mess.
Funeral in Berlin made much of the nasty absurdity of the Cold War, and Billion Dollar Brain turns the whole mess into a sort of nihilistic romp. Not as good as the previous two, but weirder than hell.
