Review of Bill Cunningham New York (2011) by Jason M — 16 May 2011
One of a kind documentary about Bill Cunningham, a fashion photographer for The New York Times, and I'm sure some would say "the" fashion photographer. He documents "style" on the streets of NYC and most of the time, traveling by bike. (A story in itself I'm sure) This movie is a must see for any fans of NYC history but for anyone interested in fashion, how it has played a role in our lives, and an inspiring story about a man and his camera. Mr. Cunningham is getting older and I'm so glad I had the chance to learn more about him through this film, he is certainly a cultural icon. As one person in Paris said, "this is one of the most important people on the planet." (as far as fashion/cultural photography) I highly recommend this film not only because of my love for NYC but also for an inspiring story about a man who captured so much over his life.
FYI- THIS FILM IS LEAVING DENVER SOON, CHECK IT OUT AT THE DENVER FILM CENTER ON COLFAX NEAR THE TATTERED COVER.
