Review of Bigger Stronger Faster* (2008) by Chris W — 11 Jan 2009
A fascinating look at America's obsession with being the best--as long as our sports players don't take steroids to do it. I was a bit surprised to see Bell biased in the pro-steroids camp but his point is actually intriguing--where does this obsession come from, why can't we be satisfied with ourselves and why does America seem to permit enhancement and cheating in every other facet but not in sports.
Bell's a bit biased, but it's an intriguing look and his confrontation of his brothers (both of whom are on steroids) is touching. ONly once does he go for a Michael Moore/Morgan Spurlock-esque stunt (making performance enhancers) but it's mercifully brief.
