The film seems entirely unsure what it feels about steroid use. He seems to want to make steroids okay, but can't in good conscience make that claim fully. Both his brothers are avid users of steroids, his childhood heroes all used steroids, and the sport that he loves is over run with competition that can't be overcome without using them, so he has a strong desire to clean up steroids' image.
Chris Bell makes a valiant effort in his quest to make steroids sympathetic, if not safe. He won me to his side of doubt with his heartfelt interviews and his openness about the dangers of steroid use.
