Review of Bigger Stronger Faster* (2008) by Nyk P — 31 May 2009
Not the documentary that you would expect as Bell explores the ethical and logical arguments surrounding the use of steroids and other artificial enhancements in American society and their relationship with American sports.
Presents some interesting comparisons e.g. an athlete who creates a high altitude environment gets the same benefits as an athlete injecting a particular drug. Is there a right or wrong response to that question? Bigger, Stronger, Faster doesnâ??t exactly present a case for using drugs to get an edge on a rival, instead preferring to challenge your own viewpoint on drug use in sport, particularly with an American circle of reference.
Sadly, where the documentary is weak is with its failure to really highlight significantly the impact such drug use has on the individual and their actions/aggression difficulties. This isnâ??t to say that the film avoids it, it doesnâ??t.
It just feels a bit like a side thought. Overall itâ??s a different take on the standard argument which makes it interesting viewing even if overall the films lacks the power it could have.
