Review of Big Trouble in Little China (1986) by James R — 28 Dec 2014
Complete and utter perfection, in the most incredibly imperfect way. Or is it vice versa? John Carpenter, why do you have to be so amazing? I fall asleep every night watching this movie. That's not an exaggeration.
This movie is filled to the brim with tongue-in-cheek humor from the unrealistically perfect banter, to the break-neck speed of plot exposition, and ending with one of the most insane showdowns in the history of film.
Jack Burton (Russell) is the only character who seems to have no idea what is going on, and in this way we relate to him. As audience members, we have no idea what is going on, but we're along for the ride, and the ride is so absolutely ridiculous that we can't help but laugh the whole way through.
